We drive east to the ancient oasis of Nur, now the modern city of Nurata, located between Samarkand or Bukhara. Serving as a connecting hub between these two cities, Nurata was conquered by Alexander the Great in the 4th century B.C. and became a fortified town in the northwest part of his empire. We will visit the ruins of this fortified wall. The name “Nur Ata” means “Father of the Ray,” and the town is home to the holy spring, “Chashma,” along with a mosque and other historical structures. After exploring, we will have lunch at a local chayhana (tea house) and continue to the Yurt Camp, where you can enjoy a camel ride in the evening (10-15 minutes complimentary, additional time optional at extra cost).
After breakfast, we head to Lake Aydarkul for swimming, hiking, and a picnic. The camel ride will take place the previous evening at the Yurt Camp (10-15 minutes complimentary, additional time optional at extra cost). After our visit to the lake, we depart for Bukhara, stopping at the world-famous Gijduvan Ceramics Museum and the Narzullaev Ceramic Workshop. On the way, we will also visit the ruins of Rabati Malik, one of the oldest caravanserais in Central Asia, built between 1068 and 1080 A.D. on the Great Silk Road. We will arrive in Bukhara by evening.
