Gilan village from Samarkand

Description

Gilan – A Unique Journey into the Mountains
Gilan, one of Uzbekistan’s highest mountain villages, invites you to experience its breathtaking scenery and authentic way of life. Nestled at an altitude of 2,100 meters, this secluded settlement remained closed to visitors for years, allowing the locals to maintain their traditional self-sufficient lifestyle. Today, Gilan welcomes guests with open arms, offering a glimpse into the warm hospitality of Uzbek culture.
For centuries, villagers have cultivated the region’s famous potatoes, grown by hand on steep mountain slopes. The untouched natural beauty of Gilan – majestic peaks, crystal-clear rivers, and lush valleys – creates a serene atmosphere. Life here moves at a peaceful pace, with locals always eager to share their traditions and invite guests into their homes.
Our journey begins in Samarkand and leads us through the Takhtakaracha Pass (Kitab Pass). At 1,800 meters above sea level, this route offers stunning panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. Along the way, cozy roadside restaurants serve delicious tandir-roasted meat infused with the aroma of juniper branches. The local bazaar is a perfect stop to buy premium dried fruits, nuts, and fragrant spices.
Next, we arrive in Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Amir Timur. This historic city boasts impressive monuments and beautiful gardens. After exploring its sights and enjoying a delightful lunch, we continue towards Gilan, passing through a scenic gorge where every turn reveals breathtaking landscapes and new experiences.
Join us on this journey and immerse yourself in the unique beauty and traditions of Uzbekistan!
