"One Day in Paradise" is the name of our Chimgan & Charvak tour, and it describes what many visitors want from Tashkent: one day in the mountains, without planning every detail. This post walks you through the day stop by stop and gives the practical tips we share with our guests. If you are still choosing the season, our guide to Chimgan and Charvak in summer and winter compares them.

Key facts

  • Start: your hotel in Tashkent, in the morning.
  • Distance: about 80 km to the Chimgan Mountains, roughly 2 hours by road.
  • Stops: Amirsoy resort (or Chinorkent), the Chimgan campsite, Charvak Lake, lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Highest point: the Kumbel ridge at about 2,300 m, reached by cable car.
  • Time needed: one full day, back at your hotel in the evening.
  • Runs: daily; what you do depends on the season.
  • Book with: see the Chimgan & Charvak tour or the Tashkent Mountain Tour page, or contact us for current prices.

The day stop by stop

Morning: the road into the mountains

After pickup at your hotel you leave Tashkent and drive about 80 km, roughly two hours, into the Bostanliq district. The road climbs through villages, gardens and streams, and the mountains come into view as the city's suburbs end. Your driver can stop for photographs on the way.

Amirsoy: cable car to the Kumbel ridge

The first stop is the Amirsoy resort. From here the cable car takes you up to the Kumbel ridge at about 2,300 m, where you see the surrounding peaks and Big Chimgan (3,309 m) across the valley. On a clear day this is the widest panorama of the trip. Take a jacket: even in summer the wind on the ridge can be cool.

Good to know: because of repair work at Amirsoy's lower station, the ascent into the resort area (about 5 km) is currently by car only and depends on the weather. If the driver decides the road is not safe, the visit is replaced by Chinorkent resort, which also has a cable car ride.

Chimgan campsite below Big Chimgan

Next you transfer to the Chimgan campsite at the foot of the mountain. Here you can, if you wish, take another cable car to a viewpoint on Big Chimgan, or ride a horse along the gorge. Both are optional — some guests prefer a short walk and a cup of tea.

Charvak Lake

From Chimgan the road continues to the shore of Charvak Lake, a large reservoir surrounded by green mountain flanks. With its resorts, beaches and children's summer camps it is a favourite place for people from Tashkent to spend summer days. In warm weather there is time to walk along the water and take photographs.

Lunch and the return to Tashkent

The road down from the lake is a serpentine with views back over the water. Lunch is at a local restaurant with Uzbek dishes. After lunch you drive back to Tashkent and are dropped off at your hotel.

How the day changes with the season

In summer the day is about the lake and cool mountain air; in winter the slopes are covered in snow, Chimgan and Amirsoy become ski areas and the cable car ride is especially scenic. Spring and autumn are quieter, with green or golden slopes. The route stays the same, but the clothes you need change a lot. For more adventure in the same area, see rafting on the Ugam River.

Practical tips

  • Wear layers and bring a windproof jacket; the Kumbel ridge is about 1,800 m higher than Tashkent.
  • Use comfortable shoes with a good grip; paths at the viewpoints can be uneven, icy in winter.
  • Bring sunglasses and sunscreen in every season; the sun at altitude is strong.
  • Carry some cash for optional extras such as horse riding and for snacks.
  • Tell us in advance if anyone suffers from car sickness; the mountain roads are winding.
  • Weekdays are quieter than weekends, especially in summer at the lake.
  • Weather in the mountains can change quickly; the driver may adapt the order of stops for safety.
