A long day from Samarkand into Tajikistan: the Seven Lakes (Haft Kul) in the Fann Mountains, Panjakent and a photo stop at UNESCO-listed Sarazm. Both vehicles, help at the border, an English- or Russian-speaking driver on the Tajik side and lunch are included.
The Seven Lakes (Haft Kul) lie in the Fann Mountains of Tajikistan, close enough to Samarkand for a day trip. The lakes sit one above the other along a mountain valley, and their colours change from lake to lake.
We pick you up at your hotel in Samarkand at about 08:00 and take you to the Jartepa–Sarazm border. Our team helps you through the procedures, and you continue in a Tajik vehicle with an English- or Russian-speaking driver. You stop at each lake for short walks and photos, have lunch at a local guesthouse or lakeside restaurant, make a short visit to Panjakent and a photo stop at Sarazm. You are back at your hotel between 18:30 and 19:00.
A guide is usually not needed in the mountains: a driver who speaks your language can make the trip meaningful. If you would like a professional guide, you can add one for $40.
The tour runs all year. In winter, heavy snow can make the mountain road hard, and it may not be possible to reach all seven lakes. You can book a private tour or join a group tour. Bring your original passport; visa rules depend on your nationality.

He gave us interesting information about the country and was very attentive to all our needs. The lakes are superb. Of course, be prepared to a dirt road!

We did the day trip from Samarkand to Panjakent and seven lakes. It was a wonderful experience on both sides of the border. Bliss travel helped us with accelerating visas and the tajik side were so welcoming! You get a driver to the border on the Uzbek side, then you cross it yourself and get another guide for the Tajik side waiting on the other end. The guide spoke great English and got us some great local food. He allowed us as much time as we needed in the lakes and stopped on the road for pictures etc. we even saw the panjakent market and learned a lot about tajik culture!! 100% would recommend.

Seven lakes May 2026 • Couples Unique experience that clearly exceeded my expectations. Breathtaking landscapes. Despite the many hours in the car on the mountain road it was really worth it. After walking across the border we met our driver who accompanied us to discover this fantastic place. All well organized, but definitely challenging.

Buona organizzazione con pick-up in hotel e accompagnamento dinuovo a fine tour. Si perde tempo alla dogana per attraversare il confine con il Tajikistan, ma non è una loro colpa. Abbiamo fatto questa bellissima escursione nella regione dei 7 laghi in Tajikistan e l’abbiamo apprezzata veramente molto, abbiamo trascorso una piacevolissima giornata, visto tutti e 7 i laghi, pranzato locale su uno di essi, il cibo squisito e cucinato in loco. Non sono previsti trekking, l’intera attività è fatta in macchina vista la tanta strada, infatti molto apprezzata la guida del nostro autista. Consigliata assolutamente

Do I need a visa for Tajikistan on this day trip?
It depends on your nationality. Most European passport holders can visit Tajikistan on a short day trip without a visa. If your passport needs a Tajik visa, or a double-entry visa to come back into Uzbekistan, we tell you in advance and help you prepare.
How long is the Seven Lakes day tour from Samarkand?
7 to 10 hours. We pick you up at your Samarkand hotel at about 08:00 and you are back between 18:30 and 19:00.
How does the border crossing work?
Our Uzbek driver takes you from your hotel to the Jartepa–Sarazm border crossing near Panjakent, and our team helps you through the border procedures. On the Tajik side your Tajik driver is waiting for you; on the way back it works the same way in reverse. Bring your original passport.
What is included in the price?
