Samarkand City Tour

Step into the legendary city of Samarkand, one of the most important cities of the Great Silk Road and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This carefully designed city tour takes you through the city's most iconic monuments, combining the history of the Timurid era with the lively atmosphere of modern Samarkand.

Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum

Begin your tour at the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the final resting place of Amir Timur (Tamerlane) and one of the most important monuments of Timurid architecture.

Registan Square

Continue to Registan Square, the main landmark and architectural pearl of Samarkand. Once the heart of the city's public life, education and trade, the square is surrounded by three magnificent madrasahs: Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor and Tilya-Kori.

The impressive tiled facades, monumental arches and intricate decorations represent some of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in Central Asia.

Bibi-Khanym Mosque

Next, visit the monumental Bibi-Khanym Mosque, one of the most famous architectural landmarks of Samarkand.

Built during the reign of Amir Timur, the mosque was intended to be one of the grandest structures of its time. Its enormous entrance portal, large courtyard and impressive domes reflect the ambition and architectural achievements of the Timurid period.

Siab Bazaar

After Bibi-Khanym Mosque, explore the lively Siab Bazaar, Samarkand's traditional market and one of the best places to experience local life.

Walk through the colorful market stalls and discover traditional Samarkand bread, dried fruits, nuts, spices, sweets and other local products.

If you would like to have lunch, you can ask your driver and guide to make a lunch stop after visiting Siab Bazaar. Alternatively, you can continue directly to the next destination.

Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis

Continue to the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis, one of the most sacred and visually impressive sites in Samarkand.

The complex consists of a series of mausoleums and religious buildings built over several centuries. Its narrow avenue is lined with richly decorated facades covered in blue, turquoise and glazed ceramic tiles.

The complex is traditionally associated with Qusam ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, and has long been an important pilgrimage site.

Ulugh Beg Madrasah

The final destination is the Ulugh Beg Madrasah, located on the western side of Registan Square.

Built in the 15th century by Ulugh Beg, the Timurid ruler and renowned astronomer, the madrasah became an important center of education and science. Ulugh Beg himself was deeply interested in astronomy, and Samarkand became an important center of scientific study during his reign.

The tour concludes after visiting the Ulugh Beg Madrasah, leaving you with a deeper understanding of Samarkand's history, architecture, science and everyday culture.

Gur-Emir Mausoleum (09:00 – 09:40)

The tour begins at the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the final resting place of Amir Timur (Tamerlane), along with his son Shah Rukh, grandson Ulugh Beg, and other members of the Timurid dynasty. Built in the 15th century, this masterpiece of Islamic architecture is renowned for its majestic turquoise dome and richly ornamented interior.

Registan Square (09:50 – 10:50)

Continue to the legendary Registan Square, the heart of medieval Samarkand and one of the most magnificent architectural ensembles in Central Asia. The square is framed by three grand madrasahs — Ulugh Beg Madrasah (15th century), Sher-Dor Madrasah, and Tilla-Kori Madrasah (17th century) — which once served as major centers of science, education, and trade.

Bibi-Khanym Mosque (11:00 – 11:40)

Visit the monumental Bibi-Khanym Mosque, built in honor of Timur’s beloved wife. Once among the largest mosques in the Islamic world, it remains a powerful symbol of Samarkand’s historical grandeur and ambition.

Siab Bazaar (11:45 – 12:15)

Experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Siab Bazaar, where locals buy traditional Samarkand bread, spices, dried fruits, and handmade goods. This stop offers an authentic glimpse into everyday life and regional culinary traditions.

Lunch at a National Restaurant (12:30 – 13:30)

Enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant, where guests may taste Uzbek specialties such as plov, manti, and shashlik.
Lunch is optional and can be adjusted based on guests’ preferences.

Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis (13:45 – 14:30)

Explore the breathtaking Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis, a sacred avenue of mausoleums built between the 11th and 15th centuries. Famous for its dazzling blue tilework and intricate mosaics, it is one of the most spiritual and visually stunning sites in Samarkand.

Ulugh Beg Observatory (14:45 – 15:30)

Conclude the tour at the Ulugh Beg Observatory, where the great 15th-century astronomer Ulugh Beg conducted groundbreaking research. The remains of this scientific center reflect Samarkand’s historical role as a hub of knowledge and innovation.
