Timur’s Samarkand: A Journey Through Time in a Day

1. Gur-Emir Mausoleum (09:00 - 09:45)

   • The Gur-Emir Mausoleum is the final resting place of Timur, as well as his son Shah Rukh, his grandson Ulugh Beg, and other notable rulers. Built in the 15th century, the mausoleum is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture, known for its grand dome and intricate designs.

2. Registan Square (10:00 - 11:00)

   • Registan Square is the heart of Samarkand and one of the most iconic architectural landmarks in Uzbekistan. This majestic square is surrounded by three grand madrasahs: Ulugh Beg Madrasah (15th century), Sher-Dor Madrasah (17th century), and Tilla-Kori Madrasah (17th century). Registan Square represents Samarkand’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.

3. Bibi-Khanym Mosque (11:15 - 12:00)

   • The Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in the world, built in honor of Timur's wife, Bibi-Khanym. This grand mosque was an architectural marvel of its time and remains a symbol of Samarkand’s former glory.

4. Lunch National Restaurant (12:15 - 13:00)

   • Abed National Restaurant is the perfect place to experience authentic Uzbek cuisine. Traditional dishes like shashlik, manti, plov, and other regional specialties are served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant offers a great opportunity to learn about Uzbekistan’s rich culinary heritage.

5. Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis (13:15 - 14:00)

   • The Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis is one of the most beautiful and sacred places in Samarkand. The necropolis is home to several mausoleums and tombs, including those of Timur’s relatives. Built between the 11th and 15th centuries, Shakhi-Zinda features stunning Islamic architecture and vibrant mosaics.

6. Ulugh Beg Observatory (14:15 - 15:00)

   • Ulugh Beg Observatory was built by the 15th-century astronomer Ulugh Beg, who made significant contributions to the study of astronomy. The observatory was used for celestial observations, and it is renowned for its role in advancing astronomical knowledge. The ruins of the observatory are a fascinating glimpse into the past.

7. Paper Factory (Optional) (15:15 - 16:00)

   • Paper Factory — In ancient times, Samarkand was a major center for paper production. During this visit, you can learn about the traditional methods of paper-making that date back to the medieval period.
